Tonight's NFL Free Pick comes from historical coaching tendencies. It's tricky trying to pick winners when games do not count. If you play it, please play it small. We can never be too sure of ourselves during preseason games.

Thursday Aug. 30 NFL Free Pick


Jeff Fisher coach of the Rams has a long long history of using Week # 4 as his dress rehearsal for the regular season. Most coaches now use week # 3 as Baltimore did last week.

The Rams will play starters into the third quarter and want momentum for the season opener. Baltimore rested important starters last season during week # 4 and will tonight as well. 

Jeff Fisher is 10-4 SU in preseason week # 4 , John Harbaugh is 2-2 which at least looks in line with what I just said.

We also have a quote in the newspaper confirming the use of starters:

Fisher, who indicated starters likely will play one series after halftime, all along had planned to give them the most work in the final preseason game. He believes in steadily increasing their workload, as opposed to using the third game as the dress rehearsal.

The play is St. Louis  -5 if our information is correct and somebody doesn't throw away the game for us, which of course can happen with scrubs playing late.
